Wind Turbines brochure(PDF) Vertical Wind turbine

Vertical axis turbines offer improved performance, mounting and siting flexibility, delivering significant value in the area of micro-generation. This modular design combines the most up to date materials, wind turbine aerodynamics, and power conversion technology.

We offer solutions that are:

  • Cost effective
  • Low Maintenance
  • Scalable
Our turbines are treated so that sea air doesn’t affect them making them ideal for coastal installations.
  • Small footprint
  • Single Tower
  • No Guyed Wires

The CareyGlass wind turbines are especially chosen for the Irish environment. With low cut in speeds they will generate electricity even on calm days. They are also robust enough to withstand storm conditions.

What speed does it need to achieve to produce maximum output?

The cut in speed is 9mph and 23mph is required to produce full output. It will continue to produce up to 159mph #(Grade 2 hurricane)

Turbine Positioning

The turbine location is a very important factor in the overall performance of your small wind turbine system. Good site selection will maximise the power that your turbine will be able to deliver. The Wind Turbine should be installed not only in a high-wind area, but also far enough from buildings, treetops, fences, etc.

The height of a turbine tower is an important element to consider and should have into account the height of the surrounding obstructions. The image below shows how wind obstructions may act and the way to avoid them.

Planning

All of the CareyGlass Wind turbines meet the following planning regulations:

  • Height below 13m
  • Noise level less than 43dbA
  • Turbine is to be placed 13 metres from the nearest boundary of the property.

Benefits

  • Reduce carbon emissions
  • Reduce or eliminate electricity bills
  • Increased security of electricity supply
  • Protection against price rises
  • Gain income from the sale of surplus electricity to ESB
  • An investment that will pay for itself well within its lifetime
  • Our turbines are among the quietest on the market.

With operating noise levels of less than 40 dbA for some, they can be quieter than your washing machine!

With the recent announcement of the Micro-Generation Export scheme any excess electricity generated by domestic customers is bought back by the ESB at 19c/kWh up to a maximum of 3000 kWh per annum. So, for the first 4000 customers the ESB are buying back your excess energy at a higher price than they charge you for it!
